Gia Lai coffee project introduces greenhouse-gas measurement and fertiliser trials
On 9 July 2025, Vinh Hiep joined partners in introducing a greenhouse-gas measurement project for coffee production in Gia Lai. The cooperation involved Mitsui, Ajinomoto and AGF and included work on biological organic fertiliser alongside measurement in coffee-growing systems.
Building a basis for measurement
The project was announced with approximately USD 70,000 in support. Its purpose included collecting information and testing approaches that could inform the management of emissions in coffee production.

Measuring production inputs and the activities taking place on farms can help participants understand the system being studied. A project of this type needs a defined period, methodology and boundary so that later findings can be interpreted correctly.
Trial work and longer-term objectives
The cooperation connected fertiliser-related trials with the wider aim of improving the environmental performance of coffee production. The event also referred to Vietnam’s longer-term net-zero ambition for 2050.
That ambition is a direction for future work. It should not be interpreted as a finding that the project’s coffee, the company or an individual shipment already has zero emissions.
Following the results
The July 2025 update records the project introduction. Results should be read from the subsequent study and supporting records, including the products, farms and activities included.
For buyers considering emissions information, the useful questions concern the assessed product, the reporting year, the unit and the system boundary. These details allow a result to be matched with the decision the buyer is preparing.
