Ripe coffee cherries in a grower’s hands

Vietnamese Robusta coffee: specifications and sample checks

Robusta specifications help buyers describe the product they need. Read screen size, moisture and defect limits alongside the assessment method and sample record. A grade name does not replace physical assessment and tasting for the intended use.

What does a screen-size specification describe?

Screen size describes a bean-size classification. When comparing S13, S16 or S18, also ask about screen retention, tolerance and the assessment method. Screen size alone does not establish the coffee’s sensory quality.

Read moisture, defects and foreign matter together

Record the unit, limit and method for each attribute. Clarify the definitions of black beans, broken beans and foreign matter so specification sheets can be compared. Confirm that the published limits apply to the proposal and lot being discussed.

  • Screen size and retention.
  • Moisture and its measurement method.
  • Defect and foreign-matter definitions.
  • Sample reference and assessment results.

Separate processing information from sample results

Ask the supplier to describe the process used and provide related records where needed. Then assess the sample with an agreed method. A processing label does not by itself confirm flavour or suitability for the buyer’s roasting approach.

Choose the specification for a supplier discussion

Use Vinh Hiep’s Robusta product pages to compare the published specification fields. Send the product name, requested attributes and sample questions to the team. Keep your assessment results separately as a basis for discussing any specification changes.

Frequently asked questions

Does a larger screen always mean better flavour?

Sensory quality cannot be determined from screen size alone. Assess the sample for the intended use.

Does a website specification replace lot confirmation?

No. Confirm the specification fields and records that apply to the proposal being discussed.
