November 2025 US tariff change creates opportunities for coffee exporters

On 14 November 2025, the United States announced a change to the scope of reciprocal tariffs covering certain agricultural products, including coffee. Vinh Hiep viewed the announcement as a positive development for Vietnamese coffee businesses working with the US market.

A change in the trading environment

The measure concerned the specified reciprocal tariffs and covered products. Its application depended on the relevant tariff classification and conditions. It should not be read as a statement that every charge or import requirement was removed for all coffee products.

The White House executive order of 14 November 2025 provides the original policy announcement. Importers preparing a transaction should check the rules applicable at the time of entry.

Building on the production base

Vinh Hiep’s response emphasised its work in Central Highlands sourcing areas and its relationships with growers and cooperatives. Traceability and sustainability programmes were also part of the preparation discussed by the company.

Thai Nhu Hiep presented the announcement as an opportunity to support the value of Vietnamese coffee. The company’s stated direction included quality improvement, further processing and a more transparent supply chain, alongside market development.

A longer-term commercial focus

Changes in tariffs can influence trading conditions, while the buyer still needs a suitable product and reliable supporting information. Vinh Hiep’s position was to continue developing its production and supply capabilities so that market opportunities could be connected with higher-value coffee products.
